Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or, a saber bendwise Sable, overall four pheons crosswise of the like issuing from a taeguk Proper.  Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed KEEN SABER in Gold letters.

Symbolism
The unsheathed and upright saber highlights the motto and symbolizes combat readiness.  Yellow (gold) is the color traditionally used by Cavalry units.  The arrowheads commemorate the units four assault landings during World War II, while the taeguk represents service in Korea.  The arrowheads reflect the four points of the compass, underscoring the units ability to operate worldwide.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 12 July 1996.
